The Digital Fashion Communication Research Team is under the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society of USI – Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, Switzerland.

Our mission is to investigate online communication as a true human activity, with a long term, comprehensive and holistic approach. In particular, stressing human growth and quest for meaning in online communication experiences in the fashion domain.

Special thematic section on Fashion Communication by Studies in Communication Sciences (SComs): an international open access journal of communication research, jointly edited by the Swiss Association of Communication and Media Studies and the Faculty of Communication Sciences of USI.

Fashion Communication Research. A way ahead

This document, designed and written during the conference FACTUM 19, has two main goals: to help consolidate Fashion Communication as an academic field, and to support an international and interdisciplinary network of scholars in the area, whose collaboration may lead to a larger body of research and, in turn, to further academic recognition.
To do so, it outlines main research topics, approaches and challenges, as well as related industry issues and learning dimensions.

Education

Master of Science in Digital Fashion Communication

Offered by USI – Università della Svizzera italiana (Switzerland) and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), the MSc in Digital Fashion Communication is the first digital fashion communication master of its kind in the world. The first intake was in September 2018. It currently has 120+ students from 25+ countries.

eLearning in the Fashion Industry

This report presents an exploratory qualitative analysis of how 16 international companies have leveraged on eLearning opportunities. In-depth interviews with trainers and managers in different units have allowed providing a vivid image of eLearning within Fashion companies.

Fashion Communication Conferences

The team organizes a series of biennial digital fashion communication conferences “FACTUM - Fashion communication: between tradition and future digital developments”.
The third edition - FACTUM23 - will take place 3-5 July, 2023 in Pisa (Italy).

The summer school - Perspectives on Digital Fashion Communication of «Made In»
Cases from Italy, France, Spain and Switzerland - was held in Rome from August 29 to September 4, 2021
