Paula von Wachenfeldt

Full Professor of Fashion Studies - Stockholm University

Paula von Wachenfeldt is a Full Professor of Fashion Studies at Stockholm University, where she has been part of the establishment of Fashion Studies as an academic discipline. She has conducted research on the topics of luxury, media and communication, using both historical and contemporary perspectives. In a number of academic books and peer reviewed journals she has published on the historical debate on luxury (Intellect) and the first institutionalization of fashion and its close relation to credit use in early modern France (Routledge). From a contemporary view, she has published on luxury brands’ self-representation (Intellect) and their mediation on social media (Fashion Theory). In another publication, she has investigated media power activism and its effects on the value of a luxury brand (Routledge). She is also the co-editor of the Bloomsbury volume Luxury Fashion and Media Communication: Between the Material and Immaterial (2024).
